ABOUT VELVET MALACHITE

Malachite's velvet effect comes from tiny fibrous crystals that grow perpendicular to the surface of the botryoidal (grape shaped) layers. These fibers are incredibly fine and densely packed, giving the surface a smooth, silky texture that scatters light. 

Under magnification, the surface resembles a dense mat of microscopic needles, which softens its appearance to the naked eye.
